Aruba, popularly known as "One Happy Island," has been on my wish list for an extremely long time and it was actually our original honeymoon destination, which we sadly had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. We've then decided that we will re-do our original honeymoon plan for our 10 year wedding anniversary instead, which is coming up next year.
The topography of Aruba is what first attracted me to the island as not only does it have stunning beaches,it has coral cliffs, remarkable rock formations as well as a desert like landscape – all that excites the secret geology geek in me!It is also the ultimate foodie destination, and as a food blogger, for me 万博足球travel and food go hand in hand, and I am excited to check out the thriving food scene, which has a remarkable and varied choice of eateries from fine dining to seaside shacks.
As I had done so much research into visiting Aruba back when I was honeymoon planning,I've decided to share the top reasons why I want to visit this stunning Southern Caribbean Island with its Dutch influences, and why in my opinion it is a top honeymoon and culinary destination.
The beaches and ocean
Photos of Eagle Beach and Palm Beach have me wanderlusting and dreaming about relaxing on a sun lounger, mojito in one hand, book in another, and just taking in the sound of the ocean and the breathtaking scenery. The sand looks powder soft and postcard perfect set against those aquamarine hues of the sea.
The vibrant colours of Oranjestad
Oranjestad is the capital city of the island of Aruba and here you can see the Dutch influence on the island's architecture everywhere.I want to walk along the harbour and see all the colourful buildings, and take lots of photos of the stunning streets.
There is an emphasis on the island on actively protecting both the marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and this appeals to me as I am trying to incorporate more sustainability into my 万博足球travel plans.Every year there is an organised beach cleanup, which tourists and locals can both participate in.If timings and logistics work,I would quite like to visit then and help.
As Aruba is located out of the Caribbean's hurricane belt and much closer to South America,it has the benefit of more sunny days than any other Caribbean island.
The food scene
For me the food in a destination is a major factor that influences my 万博足球travel and in Aruba, due to a diverse population, there are some amazing dining options, possibly the best in the Caribbean! There are an incredible amount of places to dine on the island (over 250),ranging from luxurious fine dining to seaside shacks, and for something a bit more fun, there is even a Food Truck Festival during April annually, which luckily coincides with my anniversary month!
If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know my love for rum,and that my drink of choice is usually a Mojito!Aruba has rum distilleries and I would so love to do a tour in one of them!
What's more, there is actually a restaurant and bar called Mojito that does a wide selection of Mojitos alongside Cuban cuisine – sounds like my kind of heaven!
Excursions and sightseeing
There is so much to do and see on the island and you can explore either by jeep in Arikok National Park or take an alternative route by sea on a luxurious catamaran. There are lots of opportunities to snorkel, dive or do paddle boarding,as well as other water sports.
There is also incredible street art on the island within San Nicolas city which I am excited to see.
To get a flavour ofAruba, and see why it is top on my list, here's a fantastic video:
